Will Trump Repeal Obamacare? – Will I Lose My Obamacare? – Can I Get Obamacare Still?
After the election of Donald Trump as President, a lot of questions have been tossed up in the air. Lets go over these one by one.
Will Trump Repeal Obamacare?
The answer is YES. Trump plans to repeal Obamacare within his first 100 days in office (before the end of March 2017) and replace it with a bill introduce to the House in October 2015. (more information on the H.R.3762 — 114th Congress bill can be found here) The repeal is only Trump’s plans. It’s an uphill fight for the repeal to go through still. But if it were to take place, this repeal bill considerably destructs the Affordable Care Act, making health insurance plans way too expensive for individuals. This will cause about 22 million people throughout the states to lose their Obamacare coverage. But where people get confused with the repeal is “when” the repeal starts to have an effect. “…You can’t turn everything off immediately,” says Chris Condeluci, who worked under the Senate Finance Committee during the ACA debate. “The GOP doesn’t want to get beat up over kicking 20 million people off of insurance.” That leads us to the next question.
When Will The Repeal Have An Effect On Obamacare?
The repeal substantially will take about 2 years for the complete transition out of Obamacare. This makes preparation times fair for people, and gives the Republicans a lot of time to find a high-structured replacement plan for Obamacare. Republicans have a strong repeal plan, but haven’t yet found a replacement plan. The process they’re taking is half-ready, risky, and could potentially leave plenty of people that have never been covered by insurance until Obamacare uninsured within a couple years.
Will I Lose My Obamacare?
People who want health insurance can definitely count on Obamacare coverage throughout 2017 and it’s unlikely for it to leave in 2018. If the repeal were to be in place, 2018-2019 are the years where things are foggy in Obamacare’s existence, and whether Republicans can come up with something better for America. Donald Trump continues to say “I am going to take care of everybody” as he first did on the 60 minutes interview last fall, so hopefully he can execute as well as Obama and make something affordable for all.
